QUESTION: I have a 1850 style log home. The spaces between the logs are about 6 inches tall and excluding the chinking 5 inches thick. I want to foam between the chinking, what is the best method?

ANSWER: You should remove any existing chinking if there is any first.  Fill in the gap with Grip Strip backer leaving a lip for room for the new latex chinking.  I prefer the Perma Chink.  DO NOT fill the gap with any can spray foam or any kind of open cell foam (bead board, blue board, pink board, etc.) as it will cause the new chinking to bubble.  Call 800-564-2987 for more help and the materials you will need.
